Motorcycle Touring: Road Tunes

Great music always makes the road a little smoother

If you are like me, you are always looking for great new music to listen to while on your bike, and some of my best finds have been suggested by friends and fellow riders. Personally I have been listening to rock and blues music since I was a wee lad, and that still makes up the bulk of my collection. However, you will also find a good deal of Jimmy Buffet, John Prine, and a few country selections thrown in for good measure.

Below you will find a few albums for my current play-lists.

Chickenfoot, Chickenfoot III Chickenfoot - III
Release Date: September 27, 2011

So why is Chickenfoot's second album called "III?" My guess is that it is a bit of a dig at Van Halen, in that their second album was titled an uninspired "Van Halen II." Whatever the reason, this is another excellent album from the super group of Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony and Chad Smith.

Los Lonley Boy - Rockpango Los Lonley Boy - Rockpango
Release Date: March 29, 2011

I have been a fan of the "Texican" blues rock of Los Lonley Boys from their first album. Rockpango continues a string of great efforts from the Garza brothers.

Delta Generators, Hard River to Row Delta Gnerators - Hard River to Row
Release Date: November 9, 2010

The Delta Generators and a local Boston area, blues band. I have seen them live a couple of times when they opened up for Popa Chubby and The Fabulous Thunderbirds. They are a talented group of young blues artists. If you like your blues rock'in give these guys a listen.

Delta Generators, Hard River to Row Samantha Fish - Runaway
Release Date: July 12, 2011

I found this album while searching the iTunes new and noteworthy selections. Samantha plays a mean guitar and has a quirky little voice--making it perfect for the blues.

Joe Bonamassa Dust Bowel Black Country Communion - II
Release Date: June 14, 2011

Black Country Communion is a blues rock super group, composed of Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple and Black Sabbath), Joe Bonamassa, Jason Bonham (Led Zeppelin, Foreigner) and Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater). This is Blues Rock with grit.

Seasick Steve, You Can't Teach an Old Dog New Tricks Seasick Steve - You Can't Teach An Old Dog New Tricks
Release Date: May 31, 2011

Seasick Steve is another on that has been around for some time, but I am just discovering. His latest album is down and dirty blues—just the kind I like-with a southern twang, perfect road music.

Black Stone Cherry, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea Black Stone Cherry - Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
Release Date: May 31, 2011

These guys have been around for a while, but I discovered them with their third album “Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea.” For me they sound like Lynard Skynard on steroids. One of my favorite albums of the year!

Joe Bonamassa Dust Bowel Joe Bonamassa - Dust Bowel
Release Date: March 22, 2011

Another fantastic effort by the prolific, Joe Bonammasa. I will say it again, if you like the blues and just damn good guitar playing, this album should be in your collection.

Doobie Brothers World Gone Crazy The Doobie Brothers - World Gone Crazy
Release Date: September 28, 2010

This is the Doobies first album in about 10 years, and I think one of their best. It reminds me of the kind of music they were creating on albums like the "Captain and Me" and "Toulouse Street." If you are a Doobies fan or just fan of good music, buy this CD.

Steve Miller Bingo Steve Miller - Bingo
Release Date: June 11, 2010

Stevie "Guitar" Miller covering some blues classics. I have really enjoyed this album, it has a fun upbeat tone and I think Steve Miller's best effort in a while.

Krokus Hoo Doo Krokus - Hoo Doo
Release Date: March 25, 2010

Yes, this is the 1980's hair band Krokus. They have been recording and touring in various incarnations for a couple of decades, but this album marks the reunion of the original members. This is straight forward rock and roll with a punch, in the style of the AC/DC during the Bon Scott days.

Joe Bonamassa Black Rock Joe Bonamassa - Black Rock
Release Date: March 23, 2010

If you like the blues and just damn good guitar playing, this album should be in your collection. Joe Bonamassa is without a doubt one of the best blues, rock guitarist of his generation.

Joe Bonamassa Dust Bowel Pearl - Little Immaculate White Fox

Peal Aday, is Meat Loaf’s Daughter and she is one hard rocking chick. This is here debut album and she gets a little help for her husband Scott Ian and friends like Ted Nugent.
