Motorcycle Touring: Blog!Criag' latest ramblings about motorcycles, food, music and life12/26/2011 — What if the Mayans Are Right? Ever since I was a kid I have been fascinated by urban legends and conspiracy theories. Whenever my elementary school classes were given library time I would manage to find books about the weird and the strange. There was just something about the stories of UFOs, the Jersey Devil and Big Foot that sparked my adolescent interest. As an adult I have continued to be interested in these kinds of stories, and thus have become a fan of Coast to Coast AM—first with Art Bell and now with George Noory and his assorted co-hosts. 12/18/2011 — Its Just a TV Show This is not typically something I would write a blog about, but after reading the multitude of forum posts and articles on the subject I thought I would throw in my two cents. What I am referring to is the Discovery Channel’s “build off” between the Tuetuls and Jessie James. I admit that over the years I have enjoyed American Chopper, particularly in the early years. But like many other fans I lost interest two or three years ago as the show turned more into a scream fest between Junior and Senior and less about building bikes. Since Paul Jr. left OCC I actually like the show much better. There is less drama and more focus on the motorcycles, which I think makes it a much more interesting show. 11/08/2011 — The End of the 2011 Riding Seasion As I am writing this I am sitting in my living room without power. I am one of more than a million people in the same circumstance after the earliest snow storm since the Civil War rolled through the New England area. While I understand that western Massachusetts and points north got about 2 feet, here south of Boston we only got about 4 or 5 inches. But even with the relatively small amount of snow fall, power is out all over the region because it was very wet and heavy, bringing down tree limbs in massive numbers. 10/02/2011 — A Trip to the Cigarman A few weeks ago I read an editorial in Cigar Aficionado magazine about how the cigar could be the savior of conversation within our society. The article explored the idea that we are spending more and more time communicating with each other through computers, web sites, text messages and tweets, and less time actually talking face to face. The author pointed out that the ritual of sharing a cigar between friends—often taking an hour or more to complete--forced the smokers to actually sit and talk to each other. While I admit that it is a stretch to suggest that people should take up smoking just to communicate, the author makes some valid points. 09/11/2011 — 2011 Arizona Trip Blog Entries and Picture Read all of my blog entries and postings from our 21 day trip to the Victory Motorcycle Club's National Meeting in Prescott, AZ. After leaving the meet we traveled to Zion National Park, Yellowstone, Teton National Park, Devil's Tower National Monument and The 71st Annual Black Hills Rally in Sturgis, SD. In all we covered 6893.1 miles and crossed 20 states. |
